Unshackle My Verse
Wordplay Beats Ban Adverse In 2184 the thought-police declared war On embellishment, feeling and emotion in literature and articles in any form. Succinct 'plain English' was the name of their game. Google's Knowledge Graph spewed out the answers to all possible questions, no if's and but's nor wherefore's. All literature had been digitized and simplified so there was no possible confusion. There were no libraries, no depositories, no books, no independent sources of information only digital stuff up in clouds. Google stored the master database in space, to save on space. Everything displayed in words, was exactly what it needed to be, no more no less, succinct, concise, that's it. The meaning of words and phrases had to be crystal clear with no possible confusion or flare. Poets lamented the loss of emotion in words and expression. The spontaneous spurring of powerful emotions was lost. The pattern, rhyme, rhythm and music in creative works was dumbed down. The words that made you make you laugh or cry, sob, bellow or yawn, Or which sent shivers up my spine were rendered emotion-free. All phases made bland, devoid of feelings, and the power to twinkle, jink and jangle the soul, all gone and dusted. There was no escape, books were banned, poetry was outlawed as emotional twaddle and gobbledygook, All books were digitized, summarized, made succinct and sanitized by Google in '84. Poets met in secret behind closed doors to save rhythm, rhyme, meter and verse. After much debate in meetings quite late they hit upon an action plan. We must speak in riddles, puns and wordplays Using phases have double meanings, twists and twangs. To keep poetry and verse alive, to preserve our memories of verse and poets. Here are some examples: 2B OR NOT 2B a logical NAND. I owed a Grecian urn, on the Art deal swap. The sea seeped in and made the boards shrink and leak. The image of your face on Facebook comes up matched with summer day photos, how weird! 600 hundred men on horseback rode into Death Valley. Don't go gently, say "Good Night" to that. Get angry that the light is fading at the close of day. I would like to be the air that you breath in secret. A rather dreary Midnight came and I felt weak and weary. Let me count the ways that I love you. I'm so tired, but I have miles to go and promises to keep. The Gitchie Gumee shore lies beside the sea. Will I ever see a tree is so lovely?
