A Deep Dark Valley
A DEEP DARK VALLEY I walked through a deep, lonesome valley, So dark and so full of despair; I felt so alone and deserted, I saw not another one there. No way out seemed to be provided, All exits were blocked in the way, The more I walked there in the valley The darker it grew where I stayed. I strained with my eyes just to see there Some form of a faint ray of light, And my hope seemed so frail and so weakened I just wanted to die in the night. The minutes seemed to be like hours, The hours seemed to be like days; I looked for the face of my Savior, It seemed I could not see His gaze. Now despair seemed to grow into panic As I sought for the way of escape; I knew that there just had to be one, But where? I saw nothing but fate! I didn’t see where there was refuge, I couldn’t hear God’s voice right then. So with faith that was weak and so failing I groped for support from some friends. Then out of the shadows the hands came, They held me and there let me cry; They silently prayed as I sat there And I suddenly felt God was nigh. Then a light in the valley grew brighter, I slowly walked out just to see A glorious sunrise was waiting, A new day was waiting for me! The lesson I learned in this valley Of darkness and gloom and despair: Is we’re led in it just to experience The bright day awaiting us there. When God’s getting ready to shower His greatest of blessings in life, He leads us first into the valley Of darkness, despair, and of strife. We may not like life in the valley, But better the mountain will be When from our despair in that valley We look up, our Savior to see!
