A Little Piece of Me
“Hi my name is bottle I contain a lovely wine, I come to you honestly I taste quite divine.” “My friend stay a while and I’ll take care of you, Relax have a glass, maybe one or two. Have another couple, it’s going down so well, No-one will mind, they won’t be able to tell " You feel so good you decide one more just might suffice, So you go on a magic booze hunt for wine and a bit of ice. You find you special store, you put there just in case A friend should pop over with a little time to chase You have another tipple, dance around the floor, The second bottles going fast, my god it’s nearly four. You wake up from your slumber you think you’ve had a nap, The alarm is raging, wake up, its morning holy crap. You went to sleep quite sober or did you, you don’t know? You can’t remember going, did you make yourself a show? You stumble to the bathroom, you brush your teeth and hair, You peer into the mirror you really have to stare. The person staring back at you is a swaying ugly mess. But you have to earn some money, so off to work I guess You make it to your work place and think “I’m in the clear” You forget about the swaying and the smell of o de beer. You don’t notice other people watching sneering from afar Thinking is she really with us today? Did she drive her car? You make as little contact with all the folk you meet Your heads not really up to all that meet and greet. You concentrate through the mighty din that has become your brain And swear on all and sundry your never drink again. The clock is slowly ticking and yes home time nearly is here You hear your friend wine, whispering in your ear. You try not to listen but alas a he is back to play, You forget the state you got in only yesterday. The sun is finally setting, the day has come full tilt, There is no time to count the money lost or the glasses that are spilt. The time elapses, Weeks turn into months, months turn into years, People stop listening to your excuses or care about your tears, So you stick with your friend the bottle because only they know How deep your sickness has become and how you’ve stooped so low. Your kids are pleading mummy, your boss said on your bike, But hell kids are resilient and I can get a job anytime I like. “ Oh god this not happening I really have mucked up All for the sake of my mate bottle, I don’t even need a cup. My word has turn to hell on earth and I grapple with a notion Maybe wine is not my friend, but a really evil potion.
