Christmas In July
Author’s Note: 'Christmas in July', which is also known as Yulefest or Yuletide in Australia. July is generally the coldest month of winter, so celebrations emulate the atmosphere of the northern hemisphere winter. So that means hearty food like roasts, and warm drinks in front of fireplaces and bonfires. Don’t be alarmed folks! – Just for the record, here in Oz we have a second helping and do celebrate Christmas on 25th December with the rest of the world. If you've experienced people with Dementia you will know how this condition blanks out recent memories and events. Sadly we had to watch a vibrant woman like my Mother-In-Law go through this condition in the last five years before she passed away. The medications for dementia that were administered had no effect. (See footnote) Christmas in July I lie here waiting, but I know it's in vain The family’s not coming so a smile I feign ‘Rise and shine’, says the nurse, ‘it’s a lovely morn’ My dear I’ve been up, since the crack of dawn I'll rise if I must, but SHINE I don't do It'll take all my strength to just go to the Loo ! It's Christmas in July, I hear her say Now that’s plain silly, but let's have it her way Christmas is in December, now that’s a fact I’ve got dementia, but I’m not cracked Don’t ask for dates’ Cause I don’t know when Perhaps best ask those Three Wise Men! I remember that time of Peace and Joy A Special Birth of a Baby Boy Pine trees decked with lights and holly Cheery little Santa’s, so happy and jolly Tinsel and Baubles, oh what a sight Now Christmas in December, seems so right! Children, grandkids, and great grandkids too A Crib to put up, still heaps to do All eager to help, so happy to be here Loved ones of mine who I hold so dear! A cake to bake, a turkey to stuff ‘Sit down’, they tell me ‘you’ve done enough’ It’s a time for relaxing, family and good cheer Sit and relax and let’s have a beer Or a wine if you like, but just rest a while Take a load of your feet, and give us a smile! So much love around me, so much to give A Joyous Season a reason to live Christmas in July, now that’s a laugh I’ve got dementia, but I’m not daft! Because you see my dears, Christmas will always be Spent at Home with my family around me My memories will always be mine to keep A time to recall when I lay down to sleep! Footnote: Sadder still, too late, the natural cure of which we have now have importing rights to in our Company has been in existence for thousands of years and has been resisted by world bureaucracies for years. Hopefully this will alleviate the suffering of many patients and the strain on the loved ones.
