Born In the Twilight
I was born in the time when dark met light I was born in the time when day met night I was born in the twilight Swaths of murky light swaddled me in the arms of my loving mother, silhouetted by the moon faintly shining at the onset of night Thus I was born in the twilight It was the end of the day, it was the beginning of the night I breathed in the seeping darkness, I gazed at the last flickering light And I cried in the twilight A booming voice stilled my tears, a tender hand gently brushed away my fears I saw two pairs of eyes smiling kindly, I entered this world with the day and night embracing me Then I slept in the twilight I dreamed infant dreams, laying next to the belly of my womb I cooed to the familiar heartbeat, and felt the skin of protection touching my feet My first smile was nestled in the twilight I awoke in the middle of the dark night, but hands of affection calmed my fright I fell asleep again to a maternal lullaby, and I awoke once more to the dawning light I am among the generation of children born in the twilight
