The Day We Wake Up Be the Dawn
The day we wake up be the dawn Who here knows how in this world to unwind? Not good name, we fall for gems and jewels, Knowing well, mundane shine shines for short spells, Not winning hearts, heads hanker faults to find. Who strains right from wrong till truth shows right hue? Knowing well, eyes can’t facts from falsehood find, Nor seed and kernel of truth from the rind, Tell me who, oh who should know if not you. Yet, we like in shallow waters to swim, Knowing for sure, pearls of truth deeper dwell. O scratch your conscience, bare truth to tell, Stir still, from depth does surface crème o’ crème. The day we wake up be the dawn of life, The journey starts thence— of unknown births rife. Sonnets | 03.12.14 | Taken from my book, Harvest of the Late Season, published by Penguin (Partridge)
