Ode To My Friend
Did you sense a desperation? A weakness in me? I know that's not the person I wanted you to see The woman that you dream about I can never be So I cut my losses while I can and leave with dignity. I didn't want to wake up asking what it was that I'd done wrong We sensed it couldn't go anywhere, I think we knew that all along I still can't help but feel a tinge of mixed regret And I hope our friendship stays intact - I'm not finished with that yet. You came into my world so strong and full of life But we couldn't hold on hoping every word would come out right Our lives are on two different paths they'll never intertwine So we say goodbye and only hope to relive the best sometime I can no longer feel the insincerity of your words so I leave it at that, not dwell on the past that's where it hurts the worst.
