The Anomaly
"What do they call you, sir of the next room over?" "Something of an anomaly. I refuse to eat." "Nay, I mean the way you are addressed." "The number branded on my chest?" "Nay, but a name." "I am an anomaly." "That you are, for you are nameless." "I am an anomaly. What are you?" "Amelia, sir." "I know not what an Amelia is." "Why, my name." "What is a name?" "What you are addressed by." "The number branded on my chest." "Nay, sir." "You carry the sound of defeat." "Hopelessness was not even allowed to step foot within earshot of my presence until I realized my fellow inmates knew not who they were." "I am an anomaly." "As we all evidently seem to be." "Nay, but you are an Amelia." "Nameless sir, I find myself surrounded by four walls, three of which are concrete and impenetrable, the fourth being bars from ceiling to floor, allowing nothing more than my feeble arms to pitilessly stretch through and feel only escaping air. Much to Impossibility's chagrin, I believe you provide a fifth wall, one of titanium that separates my heart from my body." ~~ "Strange one, are you beautiful?" "That is a decision for others to make." "Then I shall make it, for such a mind needs a complement." "Good sir, are you beautiful as well?" "Nay, but an anomaly."
