A Reluctant Goodbye To Winter
With bare trees dancing in the snow As fields of white begin to melt Fine blades of grass begin to show As dawns first light on crystals felt The seeds wake up to natures call Since planted deep beneath the cold Long months ago, at the end of Fall As the cycle of nature begins to unfold Skies will be changed for walking sticks Mittens and warm coats will be put away With warm temperatures playing tricks The burrowing critters come out to play But you see… In Texas winter’s a funny thing Snow is rarely seen, icy roads yes You never know what winter will bring And what to wear, that’s anyone’s guess Warm up in the morn, shed it by noon Cold one moment, burning up the next And then winter’s gone all to soon Leaving all but those nasty bugs perplexed For they know if there’s no hard freeze They will have plenty to eat come Spring While floating in droves on the breeze I dread what this mild winter will bring!
