Letter To Happiness
It has been over two years now since I've felt your touch, I miss your warm gentle hands careening over mine, An electric tickle stinging the top of my head When I felt you all over me. With focus I can find you in my mind, Where memories swim teasingly behind my eyes. But without you I cannot focus, As I am reminded of what is no longer there. Although we were only briefly acquainted, I believe we were meant to be, But it seems I am the moon and you the sun, And I can only reflect on what once had shown. I no longer know what tomorrow should be, Nor do I truly care, For I've left you behind in better days, Where I shined brighter than any star. But like Icarus I fell in the brightness, Tasted the sweetness of a poisoned wine, Which warmed my belly briefly before, The joy was killed by the bile of your drink. Why is it that you are always a green light, Flickering on a distant dock?, Despite how fast or hard I row, The space between us seems to grow. I yearn to feel you once again, So that I might shine once more for tomorrow, Instead of casting shadows On whatever meager light shines on me. For you are happy and I miss you, I miss the way you made me smile, When all my work was worth a rest, That is only broken by a better day.
