Quick As a Click
Quick as a click, it was there on the screen Quick as a click, like a gift, like a dream The power I had, oh the power I held The power was something quite out of this world . To call to my hands at the briefest of whims Any text I might wish to peruse, read or skim And quick as a click, there it was, there before me Any poem or tale, any fable or story . Yet time passed, till at last, I had to concede That something had changed in the way I would read And though quick as a click was all quite well and good It just no longer felt quite the way that it should . I found that I missed more and more every day The familiar motion of turning a page The faint booky smell that all bibliophiles know That draws in the senses and helps the words flow . I missed days spent in questing through endless shop shelves For the next hidden gem that would usurp my world And the secret guilty pleasure of a veteran book lover Of judging a tale by the look of its cover . Or seeing so clearly my daily progression By the bookmarks new place after each reading session And the sweet, teasing urge I could just barely stem To sneak a peek at the last page and see how it ends . So quick as a click though efficient and fast Was a novelty, that I found, just couldn't last And whilst I'll admit that I was briefly quite hooked To me nothing compares to a good solid book
