Point of No Return
Don’t be fooled by the calm waters, As you gaze over the soft gentle ripples as I did, A beautiful day out on this lonely stretch of beach, Strolling along with family and friends Why wasn’t there more people here? What a happy day as we walked, Thinking the water was safe, The children splashed and played, Then the ball was kicked just a bit further out, One friend decided to swim for it, Each time reaching further, He didn’t seem that far away, Turning round to look at us, Distress and panic on his face, He tried to swim back, But the suction was pulling him down, It had gone from shallow water, Into a disguised deep drop, The point of no return, He was fighting for his life, And we couldn’t help him, We watched him getting more tired, Then just at that moment, A passing boat headed straight for him, Relief came over us as they picked him up, Without that boat, He would have surely died, They dropped him off on shore, He was very quiet and in shock, We all were, But we didn’t know, How could we! We should of read the warning signs, It was a lonely beach, 09/12/2016 (A true story at Spurn Point England)
