A View
I stood beside a window not my own A glorious perch from where before me stretched outside a fortunate friends most lovely home the finest sight that nature ever etched I marvelled at horizons far beyond and every wonder between the here and there and with a gasp of breath that filed my lungs could do no more than stop in place and stare the lights that blinked and glittered through the city the white tips of the mountains stretched behind every inch so fine and pure and pretty that even now it haunts my waking mind I turned towards my friend to offer envy that they were blessed to see this sight each day and with a start I realised with amazement their focus was turned carelessly away In that moment I came to a decision That of the many things I'll someday do One mistake I never plan on making Is live too long in somewhere with a view For life is filled with wonders beyond question and sights that in your heart always remain and few things are more tragic than the moment when a thing of beauty shifts to be mundane.
