Till Death Do I Part
The room was cold and flooding with a silence that makes men go insane, There are footsteps in the hall as they grow nearer and then dissipate into nothingness, A loud and defined set of steps grow nearer as people look to the door, The door opens as a silhouette appears looking dead and bare, They speak and their voice is heard, but the meaning of their words are lost, As they leave and the silence once again fills the room as no one seems to have the words to comprehend what had just happened, I lay there as the words are trying to come out; but they just don’t find the right way, It is as if my brain forgot how to speak. They wheel me into a room where there is little light and no windows, They make me lay there for what feels like hours while they run test after test, It seems like forever as they take me back to where I had resided for most of my stay only to run even more tests, Once again the dark silhouette appears in the doorway and calls people out, As they come back in they are looking pale; Almost as if they had spoken to Death himself, As the words are spoken there seems to be a freeway of thoughts running through my mind as I start to find it troubling to speak or even grasp what is being told, Everything suddenly goes dark and it gets extremely cold as what I had just been told races across my mind over and over again, The world had suddenly become a void and there was nothing, but me and that one thought. They finally tell me I am free to go, but it seemed as though whatever was in that room had grabbed a hold of me, That paradisiacal life-style that I once had was gone, Overthrown by pain and an ever growing feeling that it was never going to be the way I thought it would be, For a time there seemed to be no hope, Only the fact that the silhouette had given me a new beginning, A chance to right my wrongs For you can only live once, With that I decided to change the way I was and live a better life, Even with the pain that may not be tamed or disposed. It has been months since the news finally hit me, The pain only grows inside me… Almost as if it was an ever growing hunger, The pain has taken on a life of its own and it is slowly absorbing the life from my body, Each breath seems to feel like a lifetime, but each day seems to feel like a second, It is only a matter of time until that silhouette that was in the doorway meets me face to face, To tell me the tragic news of my life, And at that moment I will be glad that I became a better man so I could live the life I always wanted while it was still possible, For Death is stalking me and waiting to devour the last bit of life out of my body.
