Dirt On My Knees
I kneeled down in freedom’s grasp I let out a somewhat relieved gasp Shaking off the dirt on my knees Oh no please don’t…oh please… Don’t leave me by myself all night long I’ve longed to hear your midnight song Don’t tell me I don’t belong here with you Because we aren’t through…and that isn’t true I landed on my two feet thankfully At last, you are in my heart of glee Envy has wrecked my soul for a long while So, come along with me now for just a mile Don’t worry about a thing, my darling I believe that you and I are everlasting You sang me to sleep by your lullaby After all is said and done, I begin to cry I cried happy tears I’ve waited for you For too many years Oh, all I say is true Shaking off the dirt Pain inside does hurt Sorrow is not the end Here’s a heart to mend Troubled lows, You let me down Your shadows - I wear as a crown Ah, how I tried with all of my might To fight the good fight day and night But, dear, you made me lose Because of your solemn blues I kneeled down in captivity’s hold I struggled to be resilient and bold Shaking off the dirt on my knees You put me at ease, treasured trees Cease being a tease, ground breeze
