The Prairie Dog
Whoosh The sound that echoed through the day. Whoosh The sound that rang through the night. Whoosh was the sound as it came passing by through fields of green in the golden light. Whoosh was the sound of the echoes passing by. Tossing and turning in the silver light. The duvet against his skin sent warmth through the night as he kept dreaming about what was right. The Prairie Dog, speed of light. Awoke in the night, sensed something high. Look to the sky, it's not yet bright. But little did it know, someone's near. Stairs down the flight is always light. The thought of home, his heart so light. Down the road, down, down, down, back to his home when it's yet to bright. Look! There is Mother on the chair, ashes sitting on her hair. A pot of chicken broth nice and warm, waiting on the stove to give out warmth. But there is one thing that he misses so much besides his mother's chicken broth. It's the creature that roams in the field, a field of flowers, leaves and thorns. The scent in the air, oh, so light. Out to the field, the silver light. Catching a glimpse of the creature of night. A predator by night, a friend when bright. And beyond, the speed of light. Kicking up dust in its wake. Ten years apart, it's finally right as the last piece of puzzle falls into place. Oh, the beauty, so mesmerizing! Seeing the one he dreams every night. A heart of joy cries out to the night as he sees the light runs through the night. Waited ten years, sniffed the air. Yes, it is! It's friend by right. Under the stars, he hugs it tight, not letting go the Prairie Dog.
