A New Trick For An Old Dog
“A NEW TRICK FOR AN OLD DOG” today as I walked down the street, an old whore yelled out for me. I turned around and she walked up, it was close enough for me to smell the remnants of the night life in dark alleys. she says, “What would you say respect is?” I was quick with the reply: “Respect to me, is knowing when to fight in life and knowing when to back off from that fight because life will fight it for you.” I take a drag of my cigarette. “…but that’s just me. Respect is subjective.” she looks on as if my thought was introduced as a sperm that quickly grew into a full adult. “So, if someone is talking shit about me, you’re saying just let it go?” she asks. “Yeah… pay no mind to cheap conversation.” the old whore pulled up her stockings, gave her lips a touch up of lipstick and smiled. “Well shit,” she said. “These fools can take their opinions and shove them all up their asses.” she walked away a little taller than she had found me. I realized in that interaction, I gave the old whore advice none of her male buyers could give her in all those years. my father said I’d always be a loser with nothing to offer anyone. I guess I showed him. By: Chicano Eddie 7-28-2016
