Out of Sight
I saw a small child in a department store Playing in the aisle He was running here and there His parents were close by But they appeared not to care After all the shopping was done They realized They could not find their son They were stunned and both started to shake The fear that came over them was almost More than they could take They blamed each other For the neglect of this small child They started to argue As they searched up and down the aisle Tears were streaming down mom and dad’s face Fearing their child was no where in this place After a few moments of searching Which seemed to them like eternity Their arguing began to quieten And they both realized Finding their son was utmost priority As they searched and searched And called his name They thought about the Many other parents Who had done the same As their hearts began to pound It suddenly occurred to them Some of these parents Their child they never found This made them more determined than before As they searched with all their might They would find their son And next time they were shopping They would not let him out of sight As it got later And the crowd began to fade They knew it was almost closing time And all hopes of finding their son Was slipping away As they were almost ready to give up They heard a small boy cry “mommy daddy come see what i found And want you to buy” They both ran toward the sound And on an oversized toy fire truck Their son they found They smiled as they ran toward him With arms opened wide The joy they felt in their hearts They could not hide As they finally reached their little one The last call for closing time Came over the intercom They grabbed the little boy And both began to cry The lad was terrified Not understanding why Their son began to scream, mommy daddy What is wrong are you alright At that moment his mommy jumped up And realized it was the middle of the night She still heard her son screaming “mommy daddy” She jumped up quickly And ran to him At that moment she realized He was having a night mare And so had she She hugged her son so tight And thanked god It was only a nightmare that night She sang him a lullaby and told Him everything will be alright As she sang to her son She promised herself and god She would never again let him Out of sight By: charlene solitario October 1998
