Some More...Footsteps
when I know you’re leaving when you vanish for a longer while than has been before then I’ll believe that the absence of your presence is not just a change in shift but here under the newly appearing stars where your shirt blends into the sky it seems as if you’ll never stop smiling up at me as you do now from the worn blanket you lie there on from behind the curtain of smoke I can barely see your eyes though I know they still see into me even through that almost-opaque cloth and the shadow I cast in the light even with the artificial glow the flickering fire casts shadows on your face a face that I fear once it disappears beyond the door will never show itself again and as I sit here with only the moon and the propane glare to guide my eyes I watch you talk and laugh with them and I find myself saddened that I won’t have a chance to join in very much longer and so my eyes droop and though I don’t want to close them for fear of the inevitable losing of you to that bright glittering city not long after I wake i will sleep now and hope to see you in the morning or any morning any day so long as I see you again.
