She Holds the World In Her Hand
She is kept in a box, hidden from the world She holds up, swaying atop one lonely hand. And didn’t you know the world is leaking? Yes, there is a hole in the bottom Just where her heart used to have been And out flows not the molten lava of her hate But the tears she has never been able to cry So eyes are watching her finally drip to pieces As night turns to day As birds fly instead of eyes by On their way to a world better than the one From which she simultaneously Watches from and watches over And she watches the stars That twinkle from a distance, untouchable As she has no hands anymore to reach out, Grab what turn out to be nothing more Than dots of light that turn into vultures As day breaks. And it gets hot in this wooden box As flames lick at the she She hides away, and her Earth-tears evaporate Forming clouds to obscure the too-bright sky. These flames are carefully constructed Blended into weapons, shooting daggers Into her impenetrable case She has locked her self inside. And though the world is leaking, Still it glows And though her hand is weakening Still she knows That this, her burden, responsibility, job What have you To hold up the world, is not that But a choice, and so she carries it faithfully But still hoping that one day Her box will be unlocked And she can sink inside.
