A puppet, my instinct guides me there again; Creek ends in dark green pond. “Hi” I answer. My body tingles with sensation sweet as wading I see her, waterfall roars behind; scenario same. “Did you stay in water since last year my Mermaid?” Glimpse at my watch “It’s noon and so hot!” Her laughs chime in the tranquility; pearly white teeth gleam framed by coral pink moist lips and wet black curly tresses glisten, a tendril on face lively. “You’ve not changed!” “Try me… I’ve forgotten you.” I did, entangled in rush of time. She stares at me for seconds and a sexy smile she offers “Challenge accepted!” She swims nearer, black skin, sheath of silver under scorching sun. A pang of desire; I strip and plunge, swift as dolphin. “Oh!” she gasps, receding. We meet naked in warm water, vegetation lush under feet. “So?” she teases, splashing water on my face and we giggle foolishly. We dive to the falling water. It all comes to me; we kiss again passionately and make love, scaring fishes and flies. “Say, will you leave me again?” Guilty, I embrace her more and more. Side by side on the grass, the sun kisses our body dry as we hold hands. The clouds chase one another, “Marry me.” I blurt out. She gasps and sits quickly. I join her “Marry me and let me take you away from here.” She fixes me speechless and moans feebly “I belong here…” Fingers rake my hairs, I'm impatient, “Why should it always be like this…the parting?” Heart wrenching look of hers; wits I lose and hug her tight for long. “Ok darling… I’ll settle here with you. Later we’ll sort out things.” She’s so radiant, as if sun infiltrates her body. She stands, a siren, to wrap herself in her colorful sarong. “Come tonight to father to ask for my hand… and we marry.” She disappears, feet gazelle like on the grass untrampled. Before the large hut, I stand; the chief sits, hookah besides him as in dismay he gapes. “I can’t say he is mad or he sees me as one!” Mermaid peers through curtains and smiles. To old banyan tree, the tribe leads me; ribbons of all colors hanged flying to and fro. Mermaid is here, “Untie this and bind it to your wrist, my love.” I obey. ”Now, go back.” I’m angry “Why?” She vanishes. In no time, she sits besides the tree, humming a tune, eyes lost in gaze towards sky. The chief says to all “I wish, now, my dearest daughter to rest in peace!!” 1/09/16 Conversation
