An American Project
There was always plenty of drugs for people to cope But a Missionary and a Priest were their best hope. Each day came with fears to face, and lots of dope; and there were always lots of loaded guns to tote; There was little getting away to retreat. But there were many musical beats to treat. Everyday and every night was simply a repeat. Many young and talented lives ended in defeat. Better known as 'the projects’, it was indeed a crying shame; A shame that America’s poor had to live and survive with so much pain. The rent was cheap, but living in the 'projects' was no gain. Poverty was like a wild animal, desperately needing to be tamed. The bureaucrats and politicians thought it best at the time. But it’s too bad that such housing wasn’t even a crime. 08302016 ( A Chicago experience in early ‘70’s)PS Contest, Any Poem You Are Proud of, Mystic Rose
