Nobody Wants Me
Bathing in the light between the curtains from the moon cellphone fifteen inches from my head hours since it's ringtone summoned with insistent tune just a ticking clock nearby instead. Nobody wants me. The gentle sound of breathing from the pillow next to mine in concert with the blanket's rise and fall subliminal messages say that everything is fine tonight I shan't expect to hear her call. Nobody wants me. My toes seek out my slippers and I pad into the hall a silhouette lies on the window sill cat resting by the heater curled up tightly in a ball no interest in my presence, calm and still. Nobody wants me. In the spare room, PC on and wait for it to boot now bathing in it's blue ethereal glow check emails, see if anything I've sent bears any fruit, just news about some mindless TV show. Nobody wants me. Elbows on the table, rest my chin upon my hands receptive mind like a satellite dish concentrate on nothing, leave the light off in my head, just wait, she will appear, no need to wish, when nobody wants me. The muse arrives, I come alive, the keyboard takes control from nowhere crowds of words forming a queue, mystical powers in darkest hours from deep within the soul she always pays a visit, and it's true- when nobody wants me.
