Deluge
The earth was so calm and peaceful, As I watched from the distance, Children playing in the sand, People swimming in the cool of the water, Mothers preparing picnics! Fathers chatting, Excitement as families enjoyed their day out, The seaside where people loved to go, Just another sunny day! Enjoying life! Blue skies and a gentle breeze, Ice creams, hot dogs, fish and chips, So much activity on that stretch of beach, Why were my thoughts in that dream? Why was I there? As if been transported into that very spot! Watching people! Unconsciously and unaware, As I looked into their lives from afar, How beautiful the sea! Before receding with a powerful force, I shouted to the people! Get off the beach, As loud as I could! Get into the lighthouse! Get in! The flood is coming! Can’t you see! Couldn’t they hear! And why won’t they listen, As I ran up and down, In a terrible fright, They continued unknowing of any danger, They didn’t know! Why would they! But I’m warning you! Don’t you care! The sea rose to its heights! In silence that day, As If to claim some kind of payback, For whatever the reason, In an instant! It came! Swallowing all of its victims, As I woke up from the dreaming! Thinking! Innocent people! Devastation. Why! 29/08/2016 For contest sponsor Julia Ward This was a real dream that I had, I don't know why, but I was watching, As people were going about their business, When the disaster happened.
