My Dad Was Just a Lad Part 3
My Dad Was Just a Lad Part 3 I’ll close with just this “added” tale, Of this “Old Veteran’s” rhyme. To share how one man’s story, Ended. . . way before it’s time. He went back home to Iowa, Packed up the wife and kiddies. He and his kin, adventure bound, Were on their way to the Windy City. He and his brother had a plan, Build trailer homes, of wood & steel. To help young families make a fresh start, A place a couple, “at home” may feel. As their “dream” took shape, Soon past their expectations grew. The brothers bought some man toys, Cars, boats & planes, but just a few. “These are the days, They’ll never end” Is the song a young heart sings. But as comes to all, our life is done, The day our death toll rings. He was killed one fateful day, 11/47, His Piper Cub, his pride and joy. Had done that trick a dozen times, A turn of fate, for our young boy. * * * * * These are recurring thoughts, I find rushing through my head. When I think of all our veterans, Both the living. . . and the dead. All the lives now represented, In rows of many snow white crosses. In graveyards round the globe, That mark our American losses. Courageous men and women, Willing to sacrifice it all. Americans still answer, now as then, Their “HOME” countries, urgent call. With Deepest Love & Great Respect, I sign off now, “Wish you all the best” We remember you for what you did, And how you all, have passed the test. * * * * * Written by oldbuck, In recognition of the sacrifice of All our Veterans and their families.
