My Dad Was Just a Lad Part 1
My Dad Was Just a Lad. Part 1. I’d like to share my story, Of a young man and his wife. They were my mom & dad, And would be all my life. ‘o) Their family lives to tell this tale, As thousands more, relay the same. Because we must repeat them still, So no one thinks. . . War is a game. * * * * * Their story seems so common, Of a “1940’s” man & wife. Couples lived from day to day, Fearing soon he’d risk his life. Daily papers filled with horror, For those were darkened days. Everywhere were vivid tales, Folks killed in terrible ways. Then as though right next door, Japan attacks our homeland. Our President came on the air, Said: “For this we cannot stand.” So now, this young family man, Must drop what he was doing. Leave wife and kids to fend alone, To go where troubles brewing. They said: Good-byes, a kiss, a hug, Those last few hours went too fast. Not wanting now, to let them go, For these moments may be their last. O’er those months some letters came, Our Sailors, on a ship at sea, He wrote he was a “water tender”, We weren’t sure what that could be. Weeks would turn to months, Those long months turned to years. For many brave American’s Their days were filled with fears. For their loved ones And thousands more Risked life and limb In this horrible war. Written by oldbuck, In recognition of the sacrifice of All our Veterans and their families.
