Tormented by the apathetic clock How slow 336 hours struck by The urge to see you crept through my veins Like a disease that had no symptoms The relief set in as classes dispersed Unfolded sheets called out in the distance For sleep seemed to abbreviate the days And dreams prolonged your memory A glance at the photograph of summertime romance Brought fire to a still-beating heart She left in a hurry to endure the unknown; A word left to none An hour and a half of shaky hands and staggering turns Bleeding lips and battered nails Feeling despondent, I yearned to turn back Nothing but thought that you may not be home My eyes peered over to the passenger seat Memories resurfaced through my lack of restraint As the GPS repeated take exit three for the second time, I let out a sigh with faint sanity The indifferent clock, now benign Stopped as I told him to come to his porch And there he was, just as he was the last time And there I was, all along.
