Why Can'T I
Why can’t I get that God loves me? My dear friend, by all stars above Though I know you care, Something seems missing What song born for my voice to sing? All of this misapprehension’s just sin, I know that you and God want me to win, There’s nothing that you wouldn’t share, I’ve access to all of your love, Your banquet’s free and prepared lovingly. But sometimes when we are apart I find myself doubting the heart Though nothing has changed, Just lives rearranged, Our future, God’s plan from the start. Predictable change that has its own joy Random diversions, a mere moment’s toy, These challenges dealt with and soon, Not like someone moved to the moon For deep inside we both know I’m your boy. Perhaps what I’m missing’s my worth My spirit still tied to this earth I work out in gym, But Love is just Him Where effort fails, He offers mirth. Seems like my God’s richest blessing’s my doubt Pushing me always to just seek Him out. It’s hard to think that this is wrong: Might His heart be my soulfelt song? Grace be the tombstone of spiritual drought? Brian Johnston June 13, 2016
