A Gift of Immortality
When the sun disappears from view, it hasn't gone completely. When the moon fades from the morning sky, it hasn't gone completely. As I sit across from you and whisper secrets about what once was We have our lives ahead of us to see what we mean by our words Actions may be remembered and recalled They may show us what time sacrificed looks like to the untrained eye Yet the one thing that remains permanent is how our words affect each other My heart may hear your voice My heart may sing your song Yet there is no sound I would rather hear That compares to that of your heartbeat And when that heartbeat ceases to have a sound It shall take its place amongst mine My heart shall beat for both of us You will live on within me Immortals once were told that death could not ensnare them But they discovered the greatest way of staying permanent Was by living amongst others by residing within them So when they were no longer needed And immortals fled to the sky They were always remembered Because they dwelt within us Not just for the life that they lived But inside our bodies and heartbeats as well
