Going For a Walk
One bright sunny day, Mrs. Puddles Wuggles took her eight kittens for a walk in the garden and beyond. The kittens were named; Glimmer and Tywinkle, Itsy and Bitsy, Topsy and Turvey, and Ding and Ling. They were every color you can imagine a kitten to be. "Now follow me in one straight line," said Mrs. Puddles Wuggles. The kittens all rushed out the door at the same time. It took awhile to get everything sorted out but at last they were walking in a straight line following. Mrs. Puddles Wuggles wanted to teach the kittens about the garden flowers and about nature. The first flower they came to was a daylily. "A daylily is a wildflower," she told them. All the kittens gathered around and sniffed and then sneezed. Glimmer said, "that flower sure stinks!" "Oh Glimmer, that flower is fragrant, it is suppose to smell like that. There are many kinds of wildflowers like daisies, dandelions, violets, and poppies." "Do they all stink?" asked Tywinkle. Next they came to a rosy colored rose. "Roses have thorns, be careful," said Mrs. Puddles Wuggles. " Ouch" yelled Itsy. At that moment, a butterfly flew by and all the kittens jumped trying to catch it. "Was that a flower? " asked Bitsy. "No, that was a butterfly," said Mrs. Puddles Wuggles. "Oh," said all the kittens at the same time. Off they went, all in a line and soon came to a fence where a vine was twining all around the post and along the fence. "That is a trumpet vine," said Mrs. Puddles Wuggles. "Does it make music? " laughed Topsey. Suddenly, a hummingbird came whirling by and all the kittens ran and hid in the flower garden, here, there and everywhere. "Oh come back sillies," said Mrs. Puddles Wuggles, "that was a bird." "Oh" said all the kittens at one time. Soon, they were all walking in a line again. The garden was full of flowers, hollyhocks, tulips, pansies things called zinnia's, they stopped to sniff them all. Turvey fell down a few times. They left the garden far behind and were walking in a huge meadow of buttercups, and Mrs. Puddles Wuggles told the kitten they could run and play but that they must not wander too far. "Hurray" said Ding and Ling, running in opposite directions. Mrs. Puddles Wuggles gave a deep sigh, and lay in the sun watching her kittens. They were running, leaping and chasing each other. She loved them all very much, just like your mother loves you. So when she tells you to stay close, it is because she does not want you to get hurt. Now, here is a quiz. Can you remember the names of the eight kittens? _________________________ April 23, 2016 Poetry/Prose/Going For A Walk Copyright Protected, ID 16-781-666-0 All Rights Reserved.
