A Nook and a Storybook
I hurried to the far corner Of my favorite reading nook. I couldn't wait to open it, My gift of brand new, unread book. When I was young, new books were rare. Mama said food and clothes came first. So I knew not to ask for one, Although I couldn't quench the thirst. My beloved older, brother had Been earning wages for awhile. He bought a book for my birthday. He knew how to bring out my smile. Would it take me to new places, To places I had never been? Transport me to grand adventures That would make my little world spin? My nook and my home soon faded. I was taken to a new land. There was nowhere I couldn't be When holding new book in my hand. I'd like to go back to childhood And read an adventurous book, As I did on that twelfth birthday In my own little reading nook.
