The Legend of the Three Sisters Mystery
When the vast sky is its bluest and crowned by the glory of sun, three granite forms tower above the forest-covered valley, as the day nears end they are captured by clouds who sprinkle their magical mist among their weary shoulders, allowing them to rest until the eagles wake them up at the dawn of the new day. They are the three sisters who were turned into stone because of jealousy, hate and deceit, when earth was plush and rivers carried enough fish to fill the bellies of the forest tribes, Morning Woman gave birth to three daughters, all on the same day and Rabbit Hunter her young husband named them Sunshine, Cloud and Rain, they were blessed by the Shaman of their village and revered as the special ones because of their unique births and identical watery reflections. When thirteen summers passed the three sisters were chosen as brides by men of the village, Sunshine was promised to Quick Foot, Cloud was the choice of Star Blazer and Rain was to be the woman of aged widower White Fox, Cloud and Rain loved the same man as Sunshine, Trickster told the three sisters to climb the highest mountain and whoever survived would win Quick Foot as a husband and when all three reached the towering peak Sunshine was enraged and pushed Cloud off the mountain, Rain desired Quick Foot with all her heart, she shoved Sunshine to her death below. Rain satisfied with her deed slowly climbed down the spire of doom while longing for Quick Foot, as she descended Trickster waited behind a tree, he appeared as her beloved and she quickly ran to him and stumbled to her last breath below, at night when the heavens are starless and covered by a cloud blanket and when the birds fluff their feathers and rest from singing one hears the three sisters moaning for Quick Foot. 10/13/18 Fiction - October 2018 Writing Challenge - Poetry Contest
