Our Own Refugees
We need to hear their stories Each and every one Instead of looking down on them We should help to pick them up Underneath a bridge overpass Just trying to stay dry and warm Away from the thunderstorms And the winter winds so harsh Leah she's a runaway She had no other way Her step father drank all day At night she'd get raped She told her mom her husbands secret Though she did not believe She said she got what she asked for She branded her a tramp Christopher was an A+ student With dreams of helping the world He met some friends who introduced him To a little drug known as heroin He tried rehab a few times before Had no where to go when it was complete His family ashamed of him Tossed him back into the streets Each one that you see everyday Out here on these streets They have a story they need to tell To a listening ear that wants to hear It's only than and than alone Can our country began to heal Help pick our own refugees up When they all got pushed by others and fell
