Easter Is Past I Look Out My Window To the Future
Easter is past....I look out my window to the future: Tis a still Easter eve and all through my home Not a creature is stirring; it’s just me . . . all alone. I’ll be up all night, to shuffle here and there But pretty soon, I'll be asleep in my chair. I look ahead to morning, when Easter has passed I’m all bundled up and the blower is gassed. I’m up and at it, shaved and dressed. But look, there’s no snow, I’m so very depressed. I’ve had my oatmeal and toast with no jam I’d just as soon had fried eggs and some ham. That’s bad for you, or so they say What will I do the rest of today? These Golden years can seem oh so long Some exercise daily to stay fresh and strong We all rise too early and stay up too late. I wonder why, for we have no real date. I have a few friends that smile all the time They simply refuse to pout or to whine They put up a good front; make it look like its fun But there are few I’d leave alone, with rope or a gun. I don't mean to be morbid or gloomy I just see them as patients without any roomies, Their days often spent with Drs and such That really can't help the pain very much. No really good reason to drag this thing out No place to go or young folks about How are we doing? or what’s our luck? Our kids are so busy just making a buck. They all have their partners and kids that do matter They already have, far too much on their platter. To bother with us, we’d just ramble on If they did stop by or use a "cell" on the run. I’ve noticed these changes as I’ve left my job I’m stiff and sore; my head’s starting to bob I can’t climb stairs or walk very far Don’t see well enough to still drive my car. Oh, Golden years are not for faint hearted At age 69 your troubles have just started, Those checks coming in are welcome of course But check out my wheels, they’re not on a Porsche. I’ve money enough, if I don’t last too long I’d go to a home but if my decision is wrong And I run out of cash before I take leave I’d sit day by day, to cry and to grieve. Well I’ve gone on long enough Some are saying in a tone that’s “real gruff” “No one cares to hear all your chatter” “Cause in the end, it don't really matter.” I do have a wish I’d beg you to keep It costs you nothing, it really is cheap. Just remember me as a humorous old fox Way after I’ve gone in the tightly sealed box. Written by: oldbuck, As he thought of some of the elderly he had visited at the care center. Dear Reader: This is a "poetic" reminder of what some elderly mind may be going through today. You may want to stop by and brighten an elderly friend’s day this week.
