White Picket Fence
By Laura March 27, 2016 This is my sunset home Forever here I roam I can't escape these memories The waves that throw me in the sea To rise above the flashback tide To know there's nowhere left to hide We only eat from the aimless streets Statistics seem to see what they want us to be Meet me here in this broken place of stone Don't pretend to know the pain I've always faced alone You'll never know the looks they give or laws they want to pass You'll never feel the sobering truth; to know your heart is made of glass It's not the hateful things they say It's not the threats thrown in my way Sometimes I hate myself just like they do A life unlived full of regret will never quite be out of view So tell me you know how this feels Tell me again you support my cause; like you're the one spinning the wheels Don't give me pity and offer acceptance Be brave with me for once; get off that white picket fence
