Sanity's Resting Place
I stand over them and laugh Those poor fools In those minds they writhe, choke, gasp Subjects of my rule And I cry "Behold, thy fate! In where dost thy sanity lie?" And now they cannot escape From their own questions, what, when, and why I raise my arms, the waters rise I stretch them forth, the waters crash My poor subjects are crushed beneath the tides Wiping away their souls in a flash Then I begin to laugh and twirl That twisted dance and menacing laugh But suddenly, everything begins to swirl What is wrong? Have I gone daff? A portal opens before me It quickly pulls me through It felt as if I could never be free And I knew not what to do But finally, fantasy is cast aside As I found myself on my bed A few books lay by my side And a ceiling fan overhead I look again at the place Where my soul had rested so long Still, only dust and empty space Remains where that troubled soul belongs.
