One More About 'Us'
2015 On a personal note… Laughing jokingly on the phone. Teasing each other because of one’s temporary victory. Flashy glances in the hall. I remember it all. Do you? Graduation. Staying up late apologizing in Quebec. The school dance. It wasn’t just chance. I remember, do you? Repeatedly asking “are you okay?” Silences when your company was all I needed. That day at my house, the kiss in the hall. I remember it all. Do you? Walking in the rain. Waking early to see who could get to the library first. Meeting after school. Did it not mean anything? You used to tell me so much. You used to think I was someone. You used to care. “You don’t know how much someone means to you until they’re gone”. You told me that, remember? Basketball. Omar. My first day, at my locker. Does any of that exist in your mind anymore? Do you care any more? I cried myself to sleep on countless occasions. You claimed to have cared. You didn’t. I gave you a collage with these memories. There was no other copy. I gave you these memories to do whatever you wanted. That was my mistake. I gave it to you freely. Just like my heart.
