Four Quick Shots and Then a Fifth
Four quick shots and then a fifth disturbed my reverie this morn. A quick look at my watch gave the moment more import than it probably should have had. 4:05 was noted in the early morning chill. A chill, indeed, went through me as I reflected there alone in the dark. Four quick shots and then a fifth. Did they mark the end of someone's life? Lying in a car or on the street, or in a darkened hallway did someone's life flow out? Did the victim see it coming or was it a random surprise? Would we see it on the news tonight repeated endlessly? Or would some one stumble on a shallow grave in 2033? All these images passed through me as I lay there in the dark and I wondered if there were any more like me feeling the morning chill. Four quick shots and then a fifth.
