Lost
Internal Rhyme Scheme. "Hold On!" Tremors in the cry but I'm left wondering why it's my voice I hear, filled with such intense fear. Even stranger, what's causing the danger? Could it be a friend I'm desperately trying to defend? Search to find her before she lets go, but how, I don't know. Her panic sets in, and there's my voice once again. Crying in my soul because she's lost in the cold. "Hold on! Just hold on!" She thinks all hope is gone. How disturbing is the plea in a voice calling out to me. Her left hand begins to slip and her right is losing grip. "Don't give up!" I call. She cries, "I'm going to fall!" Begging her to pray and then to tell me the way to find the tower's ledge, then I gave her this pledge... "Just tell me where you are and I hope it isn't far. I'll help you if you're lost or in a storm you are tossed. Just hold on until I find you. That's all you need to do." A whimper I discern, and behind me when I turn, the face of dejection, and in a mirror my reflection. "Am I the one who's lost?" My fingers numb, cold as frost as they hold on to a book. I read the title on closer look, 'How to Find Your Way Back Home' is the title of the tome. "Hold On!" I screamed. Things are not what they seem. I know I'm awake. A horrendous fear is making me shake. This time the scream is not from me. In the mirror I can see a hand reaching to pull me in. The face is mine, veiled but thin. "Hold on to me, if you care," she said, "or you'll stay lost in his lair." What choice do I dare to make? Taking her hand could be a mistake. There's no time to grieve over what to believe. "Hold On!" Another desperate yell. Am I lost in some evil spell? Close my eyes and decide to go. I take the hand of friend... or foe? =---------------------------------------=------------------------------------= February 4th, 2016 = Lost Contest = Sponsored by: Broken Wings
