My Light
My Light I made it through another day, sometimes I wonder how Then his face appears before me, with the raise of one eyebrow. Stress falls from my shoulders, anxiety departs Peace makes its way through my veins, until it finds my heart. I remember years ago, I was living on a string Every guy that I met, was sure to be my king. No matter what I gave them, they always wanted more When they had their fill, they walked right out the door. Then one day he came along, not proud, nor was he bolder He wasn’t even six feet tall, didn’t have broad shoulders. But what he had was new to me, respect and gentleness And with his sense of humor, my heart was now a mess. Things still happened in my life, that could cause a frown Didn’t matter what it was, he was still around. I was tense, what could I do, on my sleeve I felt a tug I turned to look, there he was, and he gave to me, a hug. The car might die, the kids would challenge, no one seemed to care When I finally looked around, he was always there. He’d calm my nerves, hold me tight, assure me with his smile Never did he doubt me, no, that’s not his style. He’s taught me to be strong, if I’d give myself a chance Be the first one on the floor, when it’s time to dance. But if I need him, he’ll be there, on my left or on my right No matter when the darkness comes, he will be my light.
