Sonnet To a Short History Lesson
SONNET TO A SHORT HISTORY LESSON It’s said that history will never fade; That she’ll remain a taunting mystery— Like sun devils hiding in the corners of shade; And unlike time, her quest knows no certainty. Yet she’s known over time to repeat herself; Opening old wounds—revised editions on her dusty shelf. Please let us not allow anymore returns to evermore be A retro to those treacherous and dreadful ancestral days That rained down horror and death in so many ways?— A genocide hope of destroying the coming likes of you and me. While ‘tis true that history will rarely or seldom fade; Praises be to the time and progress we have here made. Still, let us not forget that there yet remains so much more to be done Before total justice, full freedom and complete equanimity has been won.
