Visit To Santa
VISIT TO SANTA She eyed the 'old elf' with a look of concern; Cautious, yet, curiously disdained; Though, unimpressed with the thought of it all, The overall enticement remained; She had heard of his acts of kindness; His candy canes were superb; His wardrobe was impeccable; However, the lumps of coal did disturb; The smiles of her peers was unmistakable; Would they really steer her wrong? Could all the stories and poems be true? Was there truth to all the songs? So big, he was; all that white hair; The belly, the red nose and cheeks; The wire-rimmed glasses upon his chubby face; She had been eyeing him now for weeks! So, throwing caution to the wind, she took a step; The next was easier and soon, She found herself in his lap; A hush had filled the room! He spoke so gently, like a melody so sweet; A lilting phrase that soothed; When she stepped down, her heart felt light, She truly, had been moved! Walking away, she stopped and looked, At the new friend she had just made; He waved at her, then gave a wink; A special bond that wouldn't soon fade! E. Self 2015
