Deadly Shadows
The night is silent as I glide from one shadow to the next. My breathing is shallow and on my forehead sweat collects. As I avoid moonlight I listen for sounds of movement. I scan the distance as my vision has made improvement. Like a lion on the hunt I move in complete silence. The shadows protect me from the threat of violence. The knife in my hand makes me feel strong. My life depends on my not making a move wrong. I know my enemy is also out there hunting me. The fear inside me is strong, but I won't flee. They say war is hell, but that isn't exactly true. You'd say it was far worse if you only knew. As the night and the shadows get ever deeper. I watch and listen for signs of the grim reaper. When I hear a twig snap just to my rear I know the time has come, the end is near. Without even a thought my training takes over. I rely on the lessons they taught to make a soldier. With moves that would give pride to even Rambo I look down at the glistening red pool collecting in the shadow. Written 11/9/15 Scott Williams For the contest, Trashed#4 Sponsored by Broken Wings
