Oh Lord, Why Make Me Choose
Oh Lord! why make me choose My daughter, my grandson, my heart aches to lose Fun and laughter that’s how it starts But so often it happens the light turns to dark In a flash or a moment the sunshine has gone Darkness and sadness devour the fun Once I could soothe things or so I thought Those moments of pain that saddened my heart But now it just seems I’m a meddling old man Who’s spoiling the kid, well maybe I am And now I stand by and watch things unfurl My stomach churning, my head in a whirl My head says no more, keep away but I don’t know Because of my love watching him grow It’s the essence of life my reason to live Seeing my kids and my grandkids living Gods one time gig. And perhaps I am wrong I really don’t know But what can I do, I'll love them both for evermore
