Lost In December
It was a cold December night that the little girl set out, Tucked in her coat was her pure white cat called Snow; She carried a lantern to guide her way in the forest, It had been a month of snow and terrible ice storms. It should be a month of peace and love and Christmas, But there was no happiness for this girl and her family; Father had left early in the morning on an errand, And still he had not returned and it was so cold. The girl left her bed and the warmth of home to find him, And she had been walking all the frigid icy night; Oh she was so tired and she knew that she was quite lost, Maybe she could just stop awhile for a rest. Soon she fell asleep and was dreaming of December lights, It was the holiday season and gifts to be opened; For making snowmen and for ice skating and snowball fights, For walking in the fluffy pure white, pretty snow. December was a wonderful time of the year usually, But this year father was not working very much at all; And she heard mother and father talking about it, There would be no Christmas for the family this year. She did not feel father picking her and her cat up, He carried them home in his arms kissing their heads; He placed them by the fire and put warm blankets upon, The family prayed and prayed for their girl and her cat. She opened her eyes and it was December 25th, Snow was licking her face and father was smiling. ___________________________ October 24, 2015 Poetry/Verse/Lost in December Copyright Protected, ID 15-720-901-0 All Rights Reserved.
