Why He Held His Head High
He came home from battle All battered and wounded Scarcely alive Just barely able to walk in the door But yet he held his head high For no matter how weak he was He was an army man The man used to pain and hurt But that wasn't the only reason Why he held his head high It was because he had held our flag high He had held the old tattered flag When the war was at its thinnest And when it was at its thickest He had held it when bombs blew everywhere And bullets whistled past him He had held it when the war had just begun Or when it ended Because he was proud of our country The country that risked his life for So that the flag would still wave high So that we might have freedom And we might have liberty for all That's why he held his head high
