My love for him began an uneven beat A faint flush upon the chubby cheeks Gentle words ascending soft and sweet And ready ears each time he speaks Quivering lids of averted eyes Shy, trembling hands we touch Connecting with a heavy sigh Did I feel too soon, too much What a beautiful thing I did feel then Bashful, and doe-eyed and free- I re-live the mem'ry again, and again And wonder if he still thinks of me Or was the reason we were forgotten and lost In the emotional struggle and war Was the love we anchored's cost The eternal longing for more, and more When was a smile no longer enough To send his heart swirling in bliss And when was my touch he once did cherish No longer a thing that he needed, and missed When did it die, was it ever alive If so, then who killed the flame Was it boredom, or the fighting Or life's passing time to blame Forver thought that love should bend If your soul-mate starts to break But I have seen he found me broken And soon the promise he did make
