Notes In the Columns - Haibun Contest
I knew it was in the loft somewhere, tucked away and forgotten. It hadn't been used for many years now, mamgu* has been dead for a long long time. Oh boy, could she cook, could turn a few simple ingredients into a banquet. So one wet and miserable night I climbed into the loft, geez its dirty, dusty and gloomy here, no human has ventured into this old loft for many a year. So many suitcases full of memories, I sat down on the dusty floor, and perused the goodies stored away. So many cards, which the family had sent her, my childish sketches, my attempts at writing. Was then I found it, her bible, she called it, her precious cookbook, turning the pages could see her many entries in the side columns, important variations. Could I smell lavender, was it my imagination. That's how I remember Mamgu, smelling of lavender. Honeysuckle also brings her back into mind, of walks in the country lanes. seasons bring new desires ..... leaving memories for life you can hide on a page Penned 13 September 2015 *mamgu - grandmother.
