Memories
Rain wind snow cold, My life’s first memories of, How cold England can be, With freezing hands and toes too, Muffled up to keep the blustery winds out, Woolly socks, boots, coats, hats, scarfs, and gloves, Bitterness, gale force winds howling, Blowing me down the road, all the way to school, Standing at the bus stop, Tapping feet to keep them warm, Arriving at school wet through, Huddled to the warmth of the radiator, drying socks, Trying to pay attention to the lessons, Longing for something warm to eat and drink, Those were the good old days or so we are told. Then came the sunny days, and the happy times, And the first sighting of spring, with the budding trees, Flowers growing, forgetting the winters long, And oh how precious the sun, And the long awaited summer, here it comes, Jumpers off, shorts on, skinny white legs, pale skin, Sun tan, sunburn, red marks, And so I kept on, longing for the warmth of the sun, Even then, no one really ever new, How long the sun would shine, Or my rainy days and umbrella days would last. How I longed and wished for the sun once again, And the luscious green land, and blossoming trees, But life goes on, and my youthful days grew And by the way, I forgot the thunder, And how frightened I was as a child, Especially with the damage it caused, But for the most of the time, I only watched from my window, And the effect of it. But oh how I have loved my life, And how the English weather has, Played an important role in my life, Because as I grew, and the things I wanted to do, Depending, on what the weather was doing. Memories weather, rain and blow. Continues as I grow. Becoming accustomed to the snow.
