When You Were a Child
You probably didn’t hear your Mothers early words to you – so enraptured were you at the lovely shapes her face made when her eyes locked onto yours. You no doubt let your Fathers words go over your head, too; the only thing that mattered was that you were safe in his big, hairy arms. I imagine that you were often late for school. Frozen, mid-step, at the beauty of a Dandelion waving to you amidst the refuse at the side of the road. Stunned at the sheer joy of a rainbow after a summer shower, amazed at the tickle of a Ladybird on your little finger. So many things to see and appreciate. So many hours in class; looking, longingly out of the window, which sought only to rob you of the delightful smell of God’s incredible design. No doubt there were times when you set off from home – bag, keys, books, things to do, places to go, people to see. Confidently striding out toward your goal; only to be once again waylaid, stopped in your tracks by something or someone who caught your attention. Before you knew it, the day was gone. Again. And the diary was reshuffled. Again. Flopped on your chair, trying to match your heartbeat to the gentle ticking of the clock, your mind goes back to your school report; ‘Inclined to daydream…’ “How dare they!” “They just didn’t get the real ME.” It seems, however, that God has. Don’t ever be afraid to lose yourself in Him. Take time to ponder the love that spanned a chasm so wide that the opposite ends cannot be mapped. Ease off the throttle just a little. Taste and see that the LORD is good. Enjoy relaxing in His big, safe arms. He has so much to tell you. And He has all the time in the world.
